About the original Japanese artwork: This ukiyo-e dates back to circa 1750.
The original Japanese woodblock print, drawn by Edo period artist Ishikawa Toyonobu (石川 豊信) is currently exposed at the Met (The Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York City).
The scene portrays actors Segawa Kichiji and Sanogawa Ichimatsu playing the roles of the Daimyo's (feudal lord) young son and its samurai attendant.
